Team of Bielefeld reaches 3rd place at Robucup Worldcup 2012

The Team of Bielefeld (ToBI) ranked 3rd place at RoboCup Worldcup 2012. It is a great success for the mainly student run Team and the best ranking Bielefeld robotics ever achieved in the global Robocup competition.

The RoboCup 2012 was held in Mexico City from Monday 18th through Sunday 24th June 2012 and addresses challenges in robotics in a playful way. The Robocup is divided into Leagues in which Robots compete in specialized scenarios. From Soccer to household tasks. The RoboCup@Home league focuses on real-world applications and human-machine interaction with autonomous robots. The aim is to foster the development of useful robotic applications that can assist humans in everyday life.

After three years of Robocup participation in which the team of Bielefeld managed to improve their rankings each year - entering the finals for the first time in the 2011 Istanbul Robocup - this years ranking is a bold continuation of the trend and the first time "medal" outcome.

Besides the bare results there is much excitement for some highlights in ToBIs performance . For the first time it managed to grasp a can of coke in an official RoboCup Worldcup task. Also the robot autonomously opened a door and managed to drive onto the charging station.
