CITEC Congratulates Frank Maldonado Huayaney on Successful Dissertation

Frank Maldonado Huayaney successfully completed his dissertation.Frank Maldonado Huayaney successfully completed his dissertation titled “VLSI implementation of a calcium-based plasticity learning model” on 6 April 2018. His work was evaluated by Professor Dr. Elisabetta Chicca (Neuromorphic Behaving Systems working group, Bielefeld University), Professor Dr. Giacomo Indiveri (Institute of Neuroinformatics, University of Zürich), Professor Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Rückert (Cognitronics and Sensor Systems working group, Bielefeld University), and Dr. Qiang Li (Neuroinformatics working group, Bielefeld University).

In his dissertation, Frank Maldonado Huayaney dealt with the learning capacity of artificial systems. Based on a biologically inspired algorithm, his goal was to develop an artificial learning system.  To do this, he drew upon the knowledge that calcium irons take on a pivotal role in long-term learning. The system can be used in the neurosciences, and can also be used for pattern recognition. His research on mathematical models of calcium ions led to a chip that can be used to validate hypotheses from experiments.

CITEC extends its best wishes to Frank Maldonado Huayaney for his successful dissertation.
