For many years, Bielefeld University has striven to create a family-friendly working environment for its staff. It was even recognized for its efforts in 2006 with an official designation as a “family-friendly University” from the berufundfamilie gGmbH. This certification was renewed in 2009 and 2012.

The Family Service Center at Bielefeld University is the central office for members of the campus community with families. The Family Service Center is available to answer all questions relating to finding a balance between academic or work life and family life by providing information and comprehensive, confidential advice. More information several targeted measures are in place at CITEC to help members better reconcile their work and family responsibilities, including:

Support for Parents Returning after Parental Leave (until 2018)
To support parents who would like to return to their research activities after taking a period of parental leave, newly returned CITEC researchers can apply for funding for a student or research assistant.

Child-Friendly Office
Located in the main Office, visitors and staff can bring their children to CITEC’s own Child-Friendly Office (Kinderbüro). The room has everything a child needs. CITEC members can go there with their children for short-term day care while they work there. For guests visiting with their children, childcare can also be arranged.
