The research topics of Martin Butz refer to interactive spatial representations of the body (or rather simulated body-like structures) within its environment, investigating methods of learning such representations, shaping them maximally behaviorally suitable, and actually triggering flexible, adaptive, self-motivated goal-directed behavior within. Methodwise, his approach combines classical experimental techniques for studying humans with cognitive modelling. His talk will focus on predictive control of task-oriented behavior in the context of object manipulation and eye movements.
