Abstract

My presentation will present some of our recent research on robot companions. My research in this domain is targeting the applications areas of robots as home companions and potential assistants for the elderly, and robots as tools in robot-assisted therapy for children with autism. I will summarise a few recent studies using humanoid as well as non-humanoid mechanoid robots, pointing out how appearance and behaviour can change the behaviour of people interacting with such robots. I will outline some of the challenges and opportunities such research provides.
